Boundaries: Keep the Good in and The Bad out of your space!

I’ve recently been exploring boundaries in relationships and how they positively impact your life- they keep the good in and the bad out. Boundaries are essentially a playbook with rules on what you can and cannot accept. Using boundaries can be a really effective way to make intentional decision making easier, by already having a few key ideas of what you are willing or unwilling to accept.

When it comes to exploring your consumption such as the foods you buy, what clothes you wear, and what brands you choose to support, what rules do you live by?

It’s okay if you are starting from square one here, but maybe we can cover a few practical rules that would help anyone weed out the unnecessary consumption in your life. Here are a few I live by:

  • Food: Will this nourish me?
  • Store: Would I want to work for this brand?
  • Clothes: Can I wear this for multiple occasions?

If the answer is no to any of these questions when deciding, it makes my decision swift and guides me to find something that better aligns with my boundaries for consumption.

I would recommend taking time to understand what triggers your buying habits. Is it boredom, stress or the influence of social media? Identifying these triggers can help you develop strategies to manage them and will set you up for success when setting boundaries.
